Thermo mechanical analysis

Thermo mechanical analysis aims, as its name suggests, at simulating the coupling between the thermal state of a structure and its mechanical behavior.

Hypotheses and model

Applying a temperature field

In general, the structure’s temperature field is considered as the input, causing a thermal expansion of the studied pieces. If the structure is bridled this may cause a non-zero stress field.

Sequential couplings

Most of these couplings are sequential (chaining) where the temperature field on the structure under study is not meant to be changed by its mechanical behavior.
